Medicare FAQ

When can I first enroll in Medicare?

Most people become eligible for Medicare when they turn 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period lasts for seven months, starting three months before your 65th birthday month and ending three months after.

Can I change my Medicare plan after I enroll?

Yes, you can typically switch plans during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15 to December 7 each year. Some individuals may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period based on specific life events.

What is the difference between Medicare Parts A and B?

Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. Part B covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.

Do I need to renew my Medicare coverage every year?

In most cases, Original Medicare (Parts A and B) renews automatically as long as you pay your premiums. However, it's essential to review your Medicare Advantage or Part D plans annually as their costs and coverage can change.

Is there a penalty if I don't sign up for Medicare right away?

If you don't sign up for Part B when you're first eligible and you don't have other creditable coverage, you might have to pay a late enrollment penalty for as long as you have Medicare Part B.
